Recortes en el Imperial College London
No somos los únicos que estamos sufriendo injustos y escandalosos recortes en educación. En instituciones tan prestigiosas y con tanta tradición en el mundo de la traducción y la interpretación (y una referencia internacional en el campo de la traducción audiovisual) como el Translation Studies Unit del Imperial College London también están en riesgo.
Desde el Translation Studies Unit del Imperial College London solicitan el apoyo a través de la firma de adhesión a sus peticiones de no desaparición de la unidad.
«Dear colleagues and friends,
I am writing to inform you of some very serious and troubling news concerning the Translation Studies Unit (TSU, www.imperial.ac.uk/translation) at Imperial College London.
The Management Board has informed us that the activities carried out by the TSU are not considered core to the College strategy and that, if possible, the Unit should be transferred to another institution. If this solution proves not to be feasible, consideration will be given to discontinuing translation studies from 1st October 2013.
We believe that the Management Board’s view is a deeply mistaken one and that the work of the TSU is indeed fully in line with all the College’s strategic aims. We consider that the relevance to the College Strategy of the activities carried out by the TSU is clear in that:
· we are engaged in teaching and researching the communication of science, technology and medicine across languages and cultures in a manner that involves the intensive use of technology;
· ours is the only Masters programme in translation, in the UK and possibly worldwide, that focuses so clearly on translation within the scientific, technical and medical subject areas;
· our research emphasises specialised types of translation, such as audiovisual, scientific and medical, and also the use of translation technology;
· With a track record of 12 years of large-scale MSc teaching and PhD provision, the TSU has established itself as a strong player within the College, with very healthy recruitment, particularly of overseas students, at both MSc and PhD levels, and a strong provision of further complementary activities.
With this strongly technical and scientific profile, we believe that Imperial College is indeed our most natural home. The fact that the College is making such plans indicates that it is uninformed about the vital role played by translation in disseminating its own ground-breaking scientific work throughout the worldwide research community.

De vergüenza…
Qué vergüenza de país que consiente -sin que pase nada- que alguien que ha llevado a la quiebra a una entidad bancaria, quiebra que estamos todos los ciudadanos pagando con el dinero inyectado a este banco y a muchos más llenos de ladrones y mangantes, tenga como recompensa ser asesor de una de las empresas más poderosas del país.
Así funcionan las cosas aquí: primero robo todo lo que quiero y más, dejo al país en la bancarrota y encima me hacen asesor en Telefónica… ¡¡Pero qué poca vergüenza!! ¿Esto es un país serio? Ese hombre debería estar en la cárcel por haber llevado a Bankia al desastre, y a nosotros a pagar su «impecable» gestión como banquero. SIENTO VERGÜENZA de esta clase política y de estos banqueros chorizos…
Vergüenza, absoluta vergüenza.
Telefónica ficha a Rato como consejero asesor en Latinoamérica y Europa
El nombramiento se produce pocas semanas después de la declaración de Rato como imputado en la Audiencia Nacional
Rato no es el primer político retirado que ficha por la multinacional española
El Gobierno de Aznar, el FMI, Bankia y ahora Telefónica. La multinacional española ha elegido a Rodrigo Rato como consejero asesor de Telefónica Latinoamérica y Telefónica Europa. El nombramiento se ha anunciado pocas semanas después de que Rato tuviera que declarar como imputado en la Audiencia Nacional por la catastrofe de Bankia, de la que fue presidente.
En la nota que ha anunciado el nombramiento, la empresa se refiere a Rato como «ex Vicepresidente y Ministro de Economía y Hacienda del Gobierno Español y ex Director Gerente del Fondo Monetario Internacional» (con los cargos en mayúsculas), pero sin mencionar en ningún momento sus responsabilidades en Bankia.
Al mismo tiempo, Telefónica ha designado al hasta hace poco secretario general Técnico de la Presidencia de Telefónica, Luis Abril Pérez, para su incorporación al Consejo Asesor de Telefónica Europa.
La firma presidida por César Alierta ha indicado que, por su experiencia y trayectoria, ambos nombramientos vienen a reforzar la visión global de Telefónica, presente en 25 países.
Rato no es el primer político retirado que encuentra acomodo entre los altos cargos de Telefónica. Allí también se encuentran Eduardo Zaplana, ministro con Aznar, y Javier de Paz, expresidente de Mercasa y exsecretario general de las Juventudes Socialistas. Iñaki Urdangarin también disfrutó de la confianza de la empresa hasta que las acusaciones de corrupción le obligaron a hacerse a un lado.
Del consejo asesor de Telefónica Latinoamérica forman parte el presidente de Telefónica Latinoamérica, Santiago Fernández Valbuena; el exconsejero delegado de Telefónica y actual vicepresidente de la compañía, Julio Linares; la presidenta de Telefónica Europa, Eva Castillo; el antiguo jefe de la casa del Rey de España, José Fernando de Almansa Moreno-Barreda, y el que fuera presidente no ejecutivo de Atento, Francisco Javier de Paz Macho, así como Vitalino Nafría Aznar, Miguel Ángel Gutierrez, Antonio Vázquez y Luis Fernando Furlán.
En el consejo de Telefónica Europa están, además de Rodrigo Rato y Luis Abril, Eva Castillo, José María Álvarez Pallete, Peter Erskine, Julio Linares, Javier Echenique, David Arculus, Javier Godó, Gonzalo Hinojosa, Cath Keers, Luis Javier Bastida y José María Abril.
Rato, que dimitió de su cargo en Bankia en mayo de 2012 y fue sustituido por José Ignacio Goirigolzarri, exconsejero delegado de BBVA, está imputado en la causa que investiga la salida a bolsa de la entidad y las condiciones en las que se produjo la fusión de las cajas que dieron lugar a la entidad financiera.

Simplemente hay cosas que no pueden pasar en este país: que haya políticos honestos que renuncien a sus privilegios para ayudar a los demás. Sería mucho pedir, ¿verdad?
La Asociación Democracia Real Ya (DRY) va a presentar este viernes una querella en el Tribunal Supremo contra 63 diputados que, según denuncian, perciben dietas de desplazamiento y manutención a pesar de disponer de una o varias viviendas en Madrid.
Según ha explicado en declaraciones a Europa Press uno de los letrados integrantes del Equipo Jurídico de la Asociación, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, esos 63 diputados están percibiendo dietas por valor de 1823,86 euros «en concepto de pernoctación», aun teniendo una vivienda en la capital.
«Esa cantidad le correspondería a diputados que realmente lo necesitasen, pero según el Registro de Propiedad y las declaraciones de bienes que presentaron en el Congreso, todos tienen uno o más pisos en Madrid, y muchos de ellos viven en Madrid», ha denunciado, para añadir que el propio presidente del Gobierno también estaría percibiendo dietas «de manera ilegítima».
Por todo ello, la Asociación DRY les acusa en su querella de los delitos de malversación de fondos públicos y apropiación indebida. Asimismo, quieren que «devuelvan el dinero que no les corresponde», sobre todo teniendo en cuenta que «los recortes están trayendo por la calle de la amargura a la mayoría de los españoles».
«Esta querella pretende ser un paso más en el camino a recorrer para devolver la justicia a la sociedad, para poner freno a la decadencia de unos políticos que, comprados por las grandes oligarquías, están desangrando a los ciudadanos a los que dicen representar», aseguran en un comunicado, en el que también informan de que ofrecerán más detalles este viernes a las 11.30 frente al Tribunal Supremo.
